If you’re thinking of going through with cremation memorial services, maybe you’ve heard some of the myths surrounding the process and you’re here to seek answers. Here are the top five myths about cremation, debunked.
Funeral homes have very strict regulations to ensure that something like this will never happen. ID tags and a steel disk with the date of birth and name are placed onto your loved one before the process takes place, as well as the number being written on your paperwork for identification purposes.
It’s perfectly legal for you to scatter a loved one’s ashes, but you will need to secure permission if you wish to do so on private land. As long as you’re considerate of those around you, this isn’t a problem.
Whilst cremation services are less harmful than the process of burial for several reasons, they still release harmful chemicals into the atmosphere – carbon monoxide and sulphur dioxide to name a few
Cremation funeral services do not involve lighting the body on fire. Flames are used to reach the high temperature required to reduce the body into gases and cremated remains. Afterwards, the fragments of bone that remain are converted into ashes via an electric processor. The entire process should take no more than three hours.
Some religions aren’t exactly in favour of cremation, but lots are becoming more open to it. Here are a couple of faiths and their opinions on cremation.
Judaism: A Jew is allowed to choose cremation and they will be allowed to be buried in a Jewish cemetery, but they prefer the cremated remains to be buried in a coffin.
Christianity: Although burial is generally preferred when choosing a cremation, it doesn’t stand in the way of being able to have a burial in a church cemetery or having a ‘traditional’ funeral.
Buddhism: Buddhists encourage cremation, perhaps because the founder of Buddhism was himself cremated.
