Pre-Planning Meeting

A Pre-Planning meeting provides you with the opportunity to consider the wide range of options available in funeral planning today. This meeting can take place in the comfort and privacy of our premises, or alternatively at your home whichever is more convenient for you.

Your preferences for your funeral will be recorded and the costs calculated at the time of the meeting. You can leave this arrangement with our funeral director and be assured that when the time comes, all your personal details and preferences for your funeral will be carried out according to your wishes.

Pre-planning a funeral means that you choose the type and style of funeral service you want and decide how much you want to invest in advance.

Some people feel comfortable about leaving this responsibility to the family, while others prefer to be a little more organised by planning and even paying for their funeral ahead of time.

There are many advantages in planning ahead:

To relieve some of the emotional stress on your family
To reduce the financial burden that the cost of a funeral may present.
Planning ahead gives you the opportunity to create a meaningful funeral ceremony, one that reflects who you are and what was significant for you throughout your life.
A ceremony that gives those left behind something to remember and cherish, easing their pain of loss and grief.

A Funeral Trust Plan allows you to set money aside, in trust, for your final farewell or for that of a loved one.

Prepaying towards a funeral means when the time comes loved ones can gather together, support one another, and remember and celebrate a life, without the responsibility of making difficult choices in very emotional circumstances.

The Funeral Trust is offered by the Funeral Directors Association of New Zealand Incorporated – a member organisation set up with a vision of meaningful farewells for all New Zealanders. Established in 1937, our members are a group of caring professionals who are committed to ensuring the families they serve are receiving high quality service.

The Funeral Trust is supervised by a separate corporate trustee company called The Trustee of the Funeral Trust Limited. The Trustee manages the Trust under a Trust Deed that requires them to receive prepayments and hold them only for the purpose of meeting or contributing to the price of funeral services.

Our Administrator, Administration Christchurch Ltd (a wholly owned subsidiary of BDO Christchurch Ltd), is associated with one of New Zealand’s largest networks of independently owned accounting practices, BDO New Zealand. BDO is a global accounting and advisory firm and one of New Zealand’s leading Advisory, Tax, Audit and Assurance specialist firms.

The Funeral Trust is audited annually by an independent auditor. There is no underwriter for the Trust as it is a trust not an insurance product.

Up to $10,000 in an approved funeral plan like The Funeral Trust is excluded from asset testing (under current government policy) when assessing eligibility for a subsidy for long term residential care for the elderly.

Your family and loved ones are relieved of the responsibility of making difficult decisions in a very emotional time.

Pre-Planning your farewell is easy, talk to your Bay Cremation Care FDANZ Funeral Director – they will be able to guide you through the simple process and help with the application to The Funeral Trust.
