Alistair Black (Nat.Dip FS; Regd FD (FDANZ); MNZEA.)
At the young age of 12 Alistair felt that a career in funeral services was the path for him to take. In 1996, having left school, he gained employment with a funeral home in Wellington as a trainee embalmer and funeral assistant.
In 1999 Alistair began his formal industry training at the Central Institute of Technology (CIT) qualifying with the National Certificate in Embalming. Alistair also received the Noel McNee Memorial Award for top practical embalming excellence that year.
Returning to CIT in 2001, Alistair completed his National Certificate in Funeral Directing. After completing some additional small courses, he was able to combine these two qualifications and receive the National Diploma in Funeral Services.
Working in a culturally diverse city like Wellington has been invaluable to Alistair in his dealings with families, in understanding and respecting their customs and beliefs.
In February 2006 Alistair made the move to Tauranga to take up a role with a local funeral home, before being part of the team who started Bay Cremation Care in 2015. Alistair still enjoys continuing to learn and grow as a funeral director in the beautiful Bay of Plenty.
Alistair currently serves as Secretary on the Waikato/Bay of Plenty District Committee of the Funeral Directors Association of New Zealand (FDANZ).
Alistair is married to Amy and they have two sons, Conrad and Joel, and twin girls Bethany and Millie. When he’s not at work, he enjoys spending time with his family, going for walks and playing in a brass band.
